I haven’t been on here in a while so I thought I would give a quick life update. Chris and I have been here in Cincinnati for about four months now. This is so crazy to me that we have already been here this long. The weather has finally started to cool off, and this morning was the first morning that I had to bundle up to take out Piper (our dog). I am enjoying the crisp fall air! I’m also getting a little bit excited about winter and seeing snow.
We are adjusting to residency life and quickly figuring out that it has its ups and downs. What I mean by that is there are some months where Chris has so much extra time, and then there are others where he is on nights and it feels like we are passing by each other like ships in the night. We are learning and growing through this process about keeping our marriage strong while also balancing all the other parts of life. II also just started a new job at the Children’s hospital which has been great.
Another thing that we are learning is the value of community. It is really difficult to enjoy living somewhere if you don’t have anyone to share life with. Even though I have been homesick, we have been so fortunate to have a few groups of people to share life with. Chris’s residency class has been super welcoming, and we are really enjoying becoming better friends with them. We also started getting involved with Young life which has been a joy and we have met many people that we wouldn’t have met otherwise. We also just became part of a church plant who have been the most welcoming group of people to us.
Last night two new friends and I went out to a festival in Cincinnati called Blink. It is a festival that combines the murals in the city with projections and sound. It was a very unique experience that really highlights Cincinnati’s dedication to the arts. The art scene was not something that Chris and I were expecting moving to a mid-west city, but it has really been an enjoyable unexpected perk of Cincinnati. Oh, and we finally tried skyline chili, which was actually pretty good. It is not something that we would necessarily crave but I would eat it again. So, while we are enjoying Cincinnati, we are definitely missing Atlanta very much. I’m also making it a goal to update this blog a little bit more!
